Prof Practice - GMTD Portfolio #2

This is the second post in regards to the business opportunity myself and a group of students have been pursuing. As I previously discussed in an earlier post, I would be continuously updating my blog with progress updates from this venture. This week we were required to attend a meeting/mock interview with our potential employers. This would allow them to see everyone at once - meeting everyone in the crew was something which they felt compelled to do at some point. They were able to chat with each individual (6 of us in total) in regards to our specialist areas, what we were able to do and what we were able to bring to the table. This was also a perfect opportunity for them to test out punctuality as a crew. Part of the exercise was to set up the equipment swiftly and effectively as a demonstration of our skill as a crew. This is something we have to get right as we will be getting paid work. It serves us well to appear as an effective team unit.

After getting to know one another in a little more detail to understand how we act in our specialist areas (directing, camera-operator, editor, etc) we moved onto the mock interview part of the meeting. What they were wanting was to set up and interview and to see how it plays out, as they're wanting to create a YouTube channel for their brand 'Get Me The Designer'. These YouTube videos would act as a platform for designers to come in and discuss their clothing brand with a presenter. At the same time their clothes will be on display during the course of the interview, and a discussion will take place around the decision process of that particular design or garment. I found this to be a great idea - but the execution is not there yet. For this to work we need a good location, good camerawork, lighting and especially good clients. Without an interesting subject matter the idea falls flat.

Below are some images from our mock shoot on the Sunday;

Today I was part of a second meeting with our business partners. This meeting was to discuss in greater detail the vision of the company and the plan for the coming weeks and months. This is something I have recently become involved with my stepping up my involvement in the managerial side of things. This means that only a select few of us are required to attend these meetings. We discussed a variety of topics, including how the shoot went on Sunday and how long that would take to edit. We also discussed our personal aims and how we hope to achieve them. Now that I am brought up to the managerial team, as well as being creative director for the upcoming projects, I feel a great deal of responsibility. This kind of pressure fuels my involvement in a project, and at present I feel very passionate about bringing these concepts to life through advertisements. I also look forward to working with clients and making contacts in the business world. There has been discussion about me meeting with clients to engage with them and to offer our services. At the end of the meeting we went away knowing what was required of us in the next meeting (which is yet to be scheduled). I will continuously update the progress I make with this venture.
